Dear friend hi. . Me and my
friends have made a short film of 10 minutes . It was a project of NCA (National college of Arts). I want you to see and comment on it. Me and my friend Saad worked hard on framing, camera shots, angles etc.

NOTE:

Kindly keep one thing in mind while commentin that we had problems with sound as we didnt had the sound recording equipments neither we had any info about how to handle it. We havent read anything about it. More over the assignment was assigned by the teacher who is teaching shot by shot filming. SO sound atleast while marking will not be considered..

It?s too bad that you are going to a University that doesn?t teach
you about sound. You movie really suffers because of poor sound
quality. When the audio is poor it takes away from the total
enjoyment of the movie.

I noticed you didn?t use any lighting either. Just the available
light. That makes you movie look flat and too much like a ?home
movie? for my taste.

Your story moves so slowly. Many time you built tension well, but
there is almost no variations in pacing at all.

I think you did well on the framing and shot selection and the
acting was pretty good.

I was confused by the title and your opening. It has no
relation to the ending at all. A chess games ends with a
checkmate, stalemate or one player resigns. Since the title of
your movie is ?Chess Game? I was expecting that analogy to play
through. You ending didn?t pay off - I didn?t understand what he
was looking for or what it was he found. Because of that, I
didn?t like it as much as I wanted to.

But it shows a lot of promise. I look forward to seeing a movie
when you concentrate on the story as much as the camera work.

Why did you call it ?Chess Game??

OK i will love to give answers. Actually our module of sound and lighting havent started yet. This film was an assignment of Framing, camera angles..in short you can say Grammer of Camera SHots and Angles. SO sound and lighting was not teached to us so could have we work on it. But now our module of ligh and sound is started.

Well as far as pace is concerned. I know i got the same comments from few more people. But being the first time i think you will let me go 🙂

but i think i got success in creating some tension.. am i right?
As far as chess game thing is concerned. Well actually we wanted to show that as Chess is a game of mind so was that stealing a game of mind. But we didnt had HIGH TECH house security so we tried to opt and use the story in different way...

as far you said what he was looking for.well we intentionally wanted to keep it a secret.........:)

As you will learn making a movie is about a lot of things. Making a connection
with your audience is one of them. If you intentionally keep thing a secret from
your audience you risk losing them.

It's your choice, of course. I love an open ending, I love a mystery, but your
movie left me cold and detached. I didn't care.

I look forward to seeing what you do when you learn about sound and lighting.

Each story has its own needs. If you felt it was important to keep the
contents of the envelope a secret then you did what was needed for
your story. There is no right answer.

I didn't like it. That doesn't mean you were wrong. It only means I,
personally, didn't like your choice.

Are you happy with your choice?
