A film of this quality has never been done before at this budget. (This looks like a million dollar film, where as El Maricahi shot for about $ 7000 US, looks like a $ 10 000 film.
HERE ARE THE INGREDIENTS WE USED
* a great script, inspired by a true story, written in about a week
* one DVX100 (bought it, filmed "Giovanni Di Mexicali", and now sold it)
* a cast of great actors (unpaid of course, but there is incredible talent out there. Put a few ads in local papers and hold auditions. You will be surprised at the top, undiscovered talent out there willing to work for credit on the film (many of whom have BA's in theatre)
* one homemade skateboard dolly (Cost about $ 50 to make. Get 4 cheap skateboards, one piece of wood, 2 PVC pipes, and you're good to go) This is an indespensible tool in achieving million dollar shots. Any filmmakers out there want pictures we'll gladly email them.
* one homemade steadicam (we got the idea from a guy who sells them here on ebay called the poor man's steady cam. ) I must say it will do the job with some practice.
* 3 500 watt lights (you can buy them fairly cheap. The stands for about $ 25, the light head for about $ 20, and light bulbs about $ 500 a piece.
* 2 white umbrellas for the lights (you'll need these soften up the lights)
* 1 camera person (anyone will do who can take good instructions from you, the director. Get a friend or family member, plan your shots well and you will get great results.
* and the FINAL INGREDIENT:
ONE NUTCASE Director/writer/producer who thinks he could pull off shooting a feature film for under $ 2000.
There you go. No more excuses. Get out there and make your movie and stop waiting for Hollywood to come knocking on your door.
