Wouldn't it be cool for people on the forum to join together to make a film. It could be written together online. then a crew could be made with people for here with anyone brining equipment

I know this won't happen (I live in the UK anyway) but I thought it was a nice idea!

Has anyone ever done something similar from any other sites?

I love the idea.

Over the years I have been involved in 10 to 12 of these projects. I
would LOVE one to work. But I have seen each one fall apart. I suspect
making a movie isn't really a fully collaborative thing. It takes a few,
very strong people - say a producer and director - with a deep belief
in a script to inspire people to work together.

The biggest hurdle was always the "where?" question. When there are
people not only across the States, but around the world, everyone
involved is secretly hoping the movie made will be filmed near them
so they can be a part of that process. And, of course, unless there is a
large budget, filming in even two different countries or states is impossible
and bringing people to the shooting location is impossible.

But I still hold onto the hope that I'll be involved in one that succeeds.

Several points come to mind.

1) Any project will require a leader. Even a cooperative enterprise requires ONE person at the top or, alternatively, a few people who run everything - but it's usually just one person. That's the nature of human society.

2) The people must agree on the basic details - how long is the movie, who does what, who pays what.

3) Last, but certainly not least, this can only be done a few times. I know lots of fan film projects that have run into the ground because the people lose their enthusiasm and/or run out of money. So, unless someone here is willing to keep funding the project, don't expect to do this forever.

But, if CI can get things going, I'm in.
