the 2nd northern 48hr film challenge - newcastle upon tyne (uk) may 2006
it's back. and this is how it works. at 10am on saturday 27th may, we give you some restrictions for your film and you have just two days to write, shoot and edit a short film of no more than five minutes in length. on monday 29th may, between 9.30 and 10 in the morning (don't worry, it's a bank holiday) you hand over your film on mini-dv and dvd, and then a few weeks later, we show all the films in a cinema to cast, crew and friends, and the judges will tell everybody which film is their third, second and most favourite.
the prize for winning is a weeks post-production at digipost (worth over ?1000). last years winners, the improvisation foundation, used it to online their 45 minute live theatre co-production, and are now developing a feature project with digipost's sister company, pinball films.
the best films will also be screened as part of the pocket dojo cinema podcast, available to internet users from around the world. you can take a look at some of last year's entries on the podcast (and our runner up from the national 48 hour film challenge too).

I went to a presentation of the American finalists and saw their films at the Cinequest Film Festival in California earlier this month. It looked like they all had a blast, but said the experience was also exhausting. The films were very imaginative and fun.
I may have to give this a try.
