Calling all filmmakers, animators, artists and creators of short content from across the world, submissions are now open for the 17th Encounters Bristol International Film Festival. Submit your short film or animation by Thursday 30th June, for an opportunity to showcase your creative talent and for a chance to win a prestigious award.

Why submit to Encounters?

1) It is the leading UK gateway to the worlds most prestigious short film and animation awards (Academy Awards, BAFTAs, Cartoon DOr and European Film Awards)
2) It is one of the best-known international competitive showcases of its kind, and is a unique meeting point for emerging talent, industry and audiences alike to engage with the short form.
3) It is springboard for you to share work and ideas with industry and peers, to develop your skills and networks and progress within the fast evolving global industry.
4) If your film doesnt get selected, it can still be seen by Delegates via the Online Digital Viewing Library powered by Vast Blue, available during the festival.

The 2011 festival will be held between Wednesday 16 Sunday 20 November in Bristol, one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the UK.

How to submit

Submit online via encounters-festival.org.uk. Encounters accept short films from all over the world completed from 1 Jan 2010, under 30 minutes in length from every genre: animation, live action drama, documentary, experimental and music video, and does NOT have a premiere policy.

The films selected for competition will be divided into the three festival strands; Animated Encounters, dedicated to showcasing short animated films, Brief Encounters which provides a platform for both live action and animated short films, and DepicT!, the competition for 90 second short films (submit directly to depict.org for free entry only to this competition). Under 21s can also submit shorts under 5mins from June onwards into Electric December part of Fresh Flix, Encounters young peoples showcase.

To enhance the festival experience, and to encourage you to submit digitally, we have teamed up with Vast Blue to power this years submissions. With Vast Blue, the festival is now able to provide a streamline submission process, and offer an advanced, online experience to Delegates through the onsite and Online Digital Viewing Library.

All films submitted to the festival are entered into the Online Digital Viewing library in-situ at the festival, offering more than 1000 films to all delegates, buyers, distributors, programmers and press during the festival. Additionally, all films programmed within the competitive screenings will be available to delegates online in a video-on-demand short film service for a period of time after the festival.

The Individual costs equate to the administration time associated to each submission.

Upload your film online and save at least 5 off the submission fee. DepicT!- Can you do it in 90 seconds?
DepicT! is our super-short filmmaking competition that challenges filmmakers on any budget from anywhere in the world to create tiny gems of under 90 seconds. Depict accepts films that are a minute and a half or under and are distinctive, imaginative and engaging.
