Hello.
We are new to the forum and are looking forward to getting involved. We are a duo of indie film-makers working between the UK and Japan specializing in shooting snowboard and documentary videos on Super 8 and HD. We're really excited about the upcoming RED Scarlet camera (which I'm sure you've heard all the buzz about) and would like to set-up a rental house when the camera eventually comes out. We don't just want to be another faceless rental house but want to place importance on networking and helping out fellow indie film-makers by providing quality equipment at a reasonable cost with us as on-site technicians.
It took us a good while to become established doing what we love and we feel that the indie-focused Scarlet camera could be a chance for us to give something back and share skills.
We'd be really interested to know what members think about the Scarlet and whether renting would be an option. The main thing is we want to be open and honest with everyone and are absolutely in no way affiliated with the camera manufacturers.
Many thanks for your time and we would appreciate your thoughts.

Welcome to filmmaking.net!
Is your camera rental house going to rent only the Scarlet?
How many cameras will you have in stock?
Will you rent all accessories?

Thanks. Looking forward to getting to know peeps here.
We'll be choosing to rent only the Scarlet as we do not have the budget for an Epic or R1. Reason we're into the idea of working with "digital cinema" cameras is the potential for it to better merge our film and video practices, and the upcoming Scarlet is an affordable option.
The number of cameras will depend on final cost of all the accessories as we'd want a full kit available for each camera. The important thing is that the camera is backed-up with us as crew. Ali to assist client with camera operation and myself looking after on-site back-ups and dailies, so we'd be renting to one client at a time. If we just rent out cameras to different people at once we loose the opportunity to build a network by not working face-to-face with other film-makers and also more importantly, introduce the risk of the client having difficulty with the workflow.
When we get these cams we'll be giving them a thorough work-out and If we can get something sweet out of Scarlet, we want to help others to on their films without the technology getting in the way.

So you aren't really opening a rental house. You are hiring yourself out with
a camera. That's essentially what I do when I work as a camera operator - I
get hired and bring my equipment. You're doing the same thing (it seems)
but you're saying the client will rent the equipment and it comes with a crew.
So where can we see the current film projects from Yukin Pictures?
