So I am a beginner and want to start making some movie quality videos........
My first idea was to use a Sony HDR sr12 and a jag35sp with like a 50mm 1.4 lense, but then I started looking up used prices for a Canon xl1 and was wondering which setup would be better......let me know....

Good question. I am looking at a Canon GL2 and wondering the same. I have a JVC GZ HD6 that is HD and it does a good job, but it doesn't have a lot of manual functions. A big difference between the two cameras you are looking at is the HD. The thing holding me back from getting the GL2 is that I'm not sure how I could use an HD and SD together :/
