NOTE TO MODERATOR: This post was made once already and was deleted with no explanation. The contents are a legitimate review and do not violate the terms of this forum. I'm guessing that it was flagged as spam because it was linking to our blog. I chose to do this instead of copying and pasting an entire blog entry into the forum. Please advise before deleting again. Thanks.

Hi All,

We recently had a rather horrible experience with Zacuto out of Chicago. At the end of this post you will find a link to a blog post on our Myst: The Motion Picture website. The post chronicles the experience of a short film shoot we did last month. It is laced with accounts of negative experiences with Zacuto. I decided to post this because I feel it is important for people to have as much information as possible before they spend hard-earned money. What we experienced was beyond unprofessional.

Do what you will with this info. I'm just putting it out there.

Cheers,

Adrian

Mr. Vanerbosch,

You asked for an explanation as to why your post was deleted. You have not proven yourself
as a valued member of the forum. Your very first post was a link to you blog and a ones
sided warning against a rental company.

I appreciate that you had a poor experience with them. However, since it was your very first
post and you have no history on the filmmaking.net boards I have now way of knowing your
true motivation.

When you have posted several times and become an active member of the boards I will
reconsider your warning against this rental company.

Until then it seems to me like a way to get people to read your blog.

Thanks for the explanation. It is appreciated. I assure you, my motives are simply to make people aware of a very shady business practice that we encountered during a shoot. Our blog readership is a non-issue, I promise you. I just thought it may be much more economical than posting a very large post on your forum.
I have to be honest, I find it a little ridiculous that I must prove myself worthy of sharing my experience with your community. Regardless of my activity on your forum, I am a filmmaker with a legitimate concern that I chose to share with others to avoid them being burned as well. I was trying to do a good thing. Your terms of use say nothing about proving yourself to be a valued member before you are allowed to have an opinion that will not be deleted.

I'll cut my losses, I think. I tried.

Fair enough, Mr. Vanderbosch.

The reason that is not mentioned in the terms of use is because it's not a requirement. You asked why
your first post was deleted and I offered my reason. If my explanation and my allowing your post to
stay is unacceptable to you I respect your opinion. You make promises here and assure me of your
motives, but that's just not good enough. Spammers do exactly the same thing.

But here it is - your post in its entirety and with the link to your blog intact. I'm sorry that's not enough
to show you I am willing to let you have your say and also willing to express MY opinion.

You clearly have a lot of experience and could be a valued member of this community. I'm sorry your
first post was simply a warning with no background on who you are and what you do.. But that's your
choice and I have not removed your post.

C.I.,

I do appreciate your decision to allow this post to remain this time. I got the sense from our earlier communication that this would not be the case. I am pleased to see that it remains intact.

Please know that I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers here. I have no ill intent toward anyone in this community. In fact, my concern was for informing people so they can make an educated decision about a particular service.

I would be happy to post my entire blog entry here and kill the link if that would make everyone more comfortable.

I fully respect your position and obligation as a moderator to ensure that this forum is not being misused. I know it can be a difficult job. It wasn't your questions about my legitimacy that concerned me, but rather the deletion of the post without opportunity to rectify the issue.

I, again, appreciate the opportunity to discuss this problem and resolve it. Please let me know if you'd like me to kill the link. I'm more than happy to do so.

Cheers,

Adrian

P.S. The sad thing is, after all of this, I could have just taken the time to summarize my experience and avoided a problem all together 🙂 Sorry for the confusion.

I, too, am sorry about the miscommunication.

While I did delete your first post, I don't know how you
got the impression that I had deleted your second one
when it remained intact. I'm sure you understand that we
get a lot of "driveby" postings. People who post one time
and then never post again. There was no way for me to
know that you were not one of these people. Thus my
"proven yourself" sentence.

Time will tell. If you cut your loses and never post again,
my past experiences will play out. If you chose to stick
around and offer advice and help to the people here it'll
be nice to have another experienced person around.

I will be happy to be proven wrong on this one.

BTW: I contacted two DP's I know who are based in Chicago
and both had excellent things to say about both Joe and
Scott at Zacuto. I'm sorry you had such a poor experience
with them

One of our producers also spoke with multiple people on a shoot in Chicago last week regarding Zacuto. They all said that they had heard negative things about the rental side of the company before, but a few of them had had pretty decent experiences with Joe before. I'm not suggesting that the company is absolutely horrible. I am simply appalled at the way WE were treated. Regardless of others' good experiences, the potential for an experience like ours is still there. I have dealt with a lot of rental houses before, and I am personally not willing to put my money on a crap-shoot just hoping that I'll have a good experience "this time". There are too many other options out there to choose from.

Anyway, I look forward to contributing more to this forum than just this unfortunately negative post.

Thanks, C.I. for your fairness.

Cheers
