How much is a Sony EVW-300 "worth" nowadays??
Would it be better to buy a 200 dollar HD cam or buy this Professional HI8 camcorder for the same price??

I don't think there's any point in getting a Hi-8 camcorder for any purpose today, even if it was a $10,000 device some ten years ago. There is a reason it's worth no more than $200 (actually, I saw plenty for less than t hat): it is perceived to be just about as useful as a Flip Mino, or a flash-based SD camcorder from Sony, Canon, JVC or similar.
Ultimately, your decision will still depend on what you'll be doing with it. There may be some specific purpose for which a Hi-8 camcorder might be perfectly acceptable. I can't think of one myself, which doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
