I have a Sony miniDV camcorder DCR PC110 with an external mic jack and firewire connection. I am trying to make a news-like interview but I can't find a handheld mic that will work with the camera.

A generic Samsung I bought at Best Buy did nothing, and I have a Shure mic, but when I export the video to my Macbook pro in iMovie, there is no sound!

Has anyone used a mic with this type of camera or can you recommend another brand or another camera brand?

Thanks!

When you plug in the mic and your headphones do you hear any sound?

Make sure the mic is powered and turned on.

You could look on ebay. I was looking at computer microphones and saw some that were hand held for like $8. I'm sure they're crappy but if you just want the look and the sound...can't beat $8. Might be worth a try anyway.
