Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a cheap good quality camera for home videos and fooling around and I was wondering what your opinions are on Flip HD cameras... I heard they are pretty decent considering the price for home movies and short films. I read from this article: ?url? http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Flip-SlideHD-Camcorder,review-1536.html?/url? that there's a new one coming out, the Flip Slide and from the review it looks pretty awesome.. What do you guys think?

Any flipcam owners out there? Or should I just save up to get a decent... $500ish camera..

Thanks!

They are great for home movies and even pretty good for behind
the scenes footage. I know some movie makers who are using
the Flip as a second or third camera to capture "B" roll or in a
place where it might be damaged. Because it doesn't have a mic
input it's not good for making short films.

The design of the new one looks cool, but it's not a good design
for making movies. Fun for home movies, though.

In the $1,000 and under range all cameras are pretty much the
same. A Sony is like a Sharp is like a Canon is like a Panasonic
is like Samsung. You can go to any Best Buy and pick up a camera
in that price range and you wont be able to tell the difference.
The current price range for a good starter camera with the
necessary features is closer to $1,500 with several a few hundred
under that.

There are two things that are VERY important when getting a
camera:

Manual controls for the iris, shutter, focus and white balance.
A microphone input.

Check out the Samsung SMX-K40, Sony CX100, Canon FS200
