I have been looking for the answer to a question that has been bugging me ever since I read this:

http://www.slashfilm.com/how-gareth-edwards-shot-monsters-on-an-incredibly-low-budget/

What camera was used to shoot "Monsters"? Remember, it had a reported budget of $15,000 - This amount could not have supported a 35mm camera, and neither could a '2-man crew'.

In the 'making of' video, the words XDCAM hinted that the camera in question was the Sony XDCAM HD version. Another forum believed that this film was the work of the HVX200, which I would not have believed could possibly capture the image quality seen in the trailer for "Monsters":

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1470827/

So now I am turning to you guys, to help me determine the camera used to shoot this feature.

Thanks
The Plane

Click on the IMDb link you provided. On the right hand side
of the page there is a pull down menu under "Quick Links".
Choose "technical specs". The camera used is listed there.

It seems the "making of" video was correct.

Maybe it was the Red One 4K. That is what we use in China. We own ours, both of them, and a fully outfitted one might, might hit as much as $40,000. That means if you are renting it for a brief time, it would probably fit the budget range of what you are talking about. If I was going to rent an HVX200, $15,000 is highway robbery. You could buy on and outfit it for less than that.
