I use a powermac G5 with final cut studio, and I know people who use macbooks and PC's. Personally I would go for a mac, not only do they seem more media-friendly, they also are the only computers that support final cut studio. However, if you do go with a PC, get Adobe premiere pro (which I've also used before). Personally I don't think its nearly as good as final cut, but I've heard others say the opposite.

(If you do get a mac, and you're on a budget, you can get an academic version of final cut, which is the same as the regular version, except that you can't upgrade by paying the upgrade price, you have to buy the new one full price).
