Hi, long time reader / poster under different username.

I have been running a small production company for the past year producing music videos etc (If you like you can check out my work via my sig). I am shooting on a Panasonic HDC-SD9 camera which gives a decent enough picture but lacks everywhere else.

I am now looking to purchase a decent camera in the next few months - it would need to have a good manual focus ring, decent amount of settings, XLR inputs etc - and obviously be 1080p - essentially I want something that can be used for many different tasks. Sound / low light shooting will be important as I plan on working on documentary / a short this year.

I have been looking at cameras like the Sony Z1. I hope to spend around 1500 on a used model and snag a bargain - could someone be so kind to recommend the different models in the price range and the good / bad points? Essentially, I would like to know what models I should be looking out for.

Thanks in advance for your help!

No-one? ?:X?

I have looked at the Canon XH-A1 and the Sony Z1 - is there any major drawbacks of not being able to shoot in 1080p?

Don't take it personally. Most veteran posters here have grown tired of seeing same posts every four to six weeks ("What camera should I buy for xxx dollars/pounds/euro?"). All you have to do is look under this forum group (Equipment), and you'll find many of these. Most of those threads contain same or similar answers (the technology doesn't evolve THAT fast to change every month or two), so it's a bit tiresome to keep writing same answers to every newcomer who hadn't bothered to look around first. I'm not implying you belong in this group; all I'm saying is, the lack of response to your question is mostly caused by this, and not by anything personal.

Fair enough, but I haven't been able to find specific answers via the search facility. I thought this forum was to discuss such things? It is a film making equipment forum after all.

I was hoping people would divulge what they use and what they like / dislike etc - I have seen threads on here that have been answered helpfully that have been far more vague.

If someone could link me to any threads that would specifically benefit me, it would be appreciated.
