Hi!
I'm a relatively new filmmaker (4 years of experience) and I'd like to install a 35mm lens on my MiniDV camera and I wondered if this "hack" would enhance my DOF. That's basically what I'm trying to do.

Thanks. ??:)?

Well, assuming that you can remove your current lens without destroying the camera, it is theoretically possible to install an adaptor mount. But there's more involved that just putting the lens in front of the sensor.

I'm assuming that by "enhance DOF" you mean that you wish to decrease the DOF so that you get the background more out of focus? It is always difficult with the smaller sensor sizes of most prosumer video cameras. The only way to really manage it without going "pro" is to use the longest end of the lens you have with the widest aperture.

If you have the money, perhaps the "cheapest" way to achieve this is to buy or rent the Canon 5D which has a full-sized sensor and already is built to take 35mm lenses. You could try it with a 7D, but again, that sensor is smaller so you'd be back to relying on long lenses and wide open apertures.
