Hey everyone,

I was just wondering what your opinion would be regarding what to do with a film (feature or short) post the festival. Uploading it to the net would be okay yet is there a better alternative?
After all a lot of people can't be bothered wasting megabytes just to watch about 15mins of footage.

Cheers

Uploading it is okay.

You're right, a lot of people won't watch it, but uploading it to the
net would be okay. A feature can be distributed. Even a short can.

Eldemondo,

I'm not quite sure what you meant by 'wasting megabytes'. Today, pretty much all of the developed world (as well as much of developing world) has some form of broadband internet with unlimited, always-on connection. When you upload to Vimeo or Youtube, your viewer doesn't need to download that movie first; they can watch instantly, and no data is stored on their computer.

Uploading to a streaming video web-site is practically a no-brainer. The downsides with that may only be related to the issues of whether you WANT the whole world to be able to see your movie or if you want to restrict the audience somehow. The wasting of megabytes is simply a non-issue.

Well, uploading your movie to Vimeo doesn't cost anything at all. If you cannot afford to pay for your own internet connection, I'm sure that there are coffee shops and similar places with free WiFi, from where you could upload. Once the movie is on Vimeo (or YouTube), several billion people will be able to access it; all you need to do is properly advertise.

You obviously DO have some form of internet access (otherwise, how did you post your question??).

?Actually, well, seeing as Eldmondo is from New Zealand, I can vouch that he probably has a point about saving bandwidth. A friend of mine from another forum lives in Australia, and the rates and bandwidth limits they were getting were absolutely atrocious (something like $80 for 50gigs a month). So, I'm thinking our friend here has experienced that sort of thing.

It won't be a problem though. Really. Bandwidth isn't an issue for most developed countries, like Vasic said.

Wow,

Who's his ISP? 50 gigs. Holey moley. I pay about the same amount (i'm on wireless) and only get 8 gigs and that's the maximun. Don't believe me check out my ISP ? http://www.telecom.co.nz/homepage.

For example one time we used up the limit in a day.
