Hello Everyone.

I've had a few questions recently about selling short films and scripts. This is actually 2 questions in one post but I can't seem to find any sites that offer what I'm looking for.

There are numerous bidding sites online for a variety of products. This works well because it brings buyers and sellers together for specialty goods that may otherwise have a hard time selling. SitePoint for example brings buyers and seller of websites together.

These bidding sites are great because they allow the market set the sale price for the asset. It takes the guess work out of finding out how much people will buy your asset for.

Is there the equivalent site that brings buyers and sellers together (in a bidding format) for the following items.

1. Scripts (short screenplays and features)
2. short films / feature films

I look forward to hearing back from you.

I use http://www.inktip.com/index.php to sell short screenplays (features are allowed as well, but it costs $60 per 6 month listing), but I dunno about selling shorts.

Bidding sites are great for products that a lot of people want.

Movies and scripts - especially shorts - are very different than
website names and goods. Very few people are in the market
to buy scripts for short films. Most filmmakers write their own.
And almost no one buys short films - even makers of short
films don't buy them.

DaveD - you say you use InkTip to sell short screenplays. How
many have you sold there?

None yet, but to be fair I haven't posted any yet. I just claim it as mine because I plan to use it when I finish a screenplay I don't want to produce (this is very rare). Anyway, 3 or 4 screenplays get sold every month on a relatively small group, so it's a good resource.

Short films are a great way to build your reel and hone your skills. I don't think they are generally very attractive to distributors. But if you have the resources, you could maybe make a series of short films on a single theme and package them together.

Hello moving_camera -
It almost seems as if this question was set up for us to answer... I hate to self-promote, so check us out at our website: www.sceneclips.com - we connect artists with capital. K8jonez gives a good answer to your question. Generally the market for shorts is narrow and non-profitable. Therefore, like K8jonez said, they are of little interest to distributors. However, shorts ARE great for the web market. They enable you to refine you craft and build an audience that you can then leverage for your future work.

The movie Creepshow is a series of short films bundled together by genre (horror) and the movie Heavy Metal is a series of short animated films bundled together by the Loch Nar sphere even though it only very barely appears in some episodes.

To take it a step further, Monty Python's Meaning of Life and Kentucky Fried movie are short films bundled together with no actual unifying element, just the cast.

Hmm thanks for the info. Infact I also have started writing my first script. A horror script with 4 short stories but they are linked together. Soon i will finish the rough draft of the synopsis. 🙂

I have seen a lot of great short films in Film Festivals. I have always wondered what they do next with it.

Well i think they are just to attract Financers that we have the potential. come and invest us... I wrote on my blog in detail. Many movies like SAW and Evil dead were actually short films first for raising finance.
